JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Stetson men’s soccer team snapped a two-game win streak on Saturday night, falling to North Florida by a score of 1-0 in overtime in the first of three straight road contests to end the regular season.
The Hatters (3-9-3, 2-4-1) were unable to convert on any of their five shots in the game, but kept the Ospreys (6-5-2, 2-3-1) at bay for over 96 minutes. UNF recorded 14 shots in the match, but it wasn’t until the final attempt that the Ospreys were able to put one on the board.
UNF’s Drew Spragg attempted a shot that rebounded back out to Jon-Michael Vieira. The Osprey beat Stetson goalkeeper Andreas Schnabl for the golden goal that gave UNF the 1-0 win over the Hatters.
North Florida held a 10-1 advantage over Stetson in corner kicks, while fouls were nearly even at 15-14. Schnabl finished the match with six saves, while UNF’s Brad Sienkiewicz totaled two saves in the victory.
After Saturday’s action both Stetson and North Florida are in a three-way tie for fifth place in the A-Sun standings. The Hatters, the Ospreys, and Mercer all have seven league points with one weekend remaining in the regular season.
Stetson will play its final A-Sun contest next Saturday at Jacksonville at 7:00 p.m. The Hatters will conclude the regular season with a non-conference match at Florida Atlantic next Sunday.
