SARASOTA, Fla. – The Stetson University women’s tennis team was edged by Miami of Ohio Wednesday, 5-2 in a neutral site, non-conference match at the Bath and Racquet Fitness Club in Sarasota.

The Hatters (10-5) saw victories on the No. 1 and No. 6 singles courts versus the Red Hawks as No. 1 Diana Bukajeva came from behind to take a three set victory 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 over Miami’s Nimisha Mohan.

“Miami of Ohio is an excellent team and they played great tennis today against us,” said Director of Stetson Tennis Pierre Pilote.

No. 6 Evaline Lepinay won in straight sets (6-4, 7-5) over the Hawks’ Ana Rajkovic while the pairing of Bukajeva and MayaBlue Stauffer-MacDowell claimed the lone doubles match for the Hatters (8-6) over UM’s Alix Thurman and Christine Guerrazzi.

“It was a great ambiance to play at with a large number of tennis enthusiasts in attendance,” Pilote explained.

The Hatters get back to A-Sun play this weekend, with matches against Mercer and Kennesaw State. First up are the Bears for Pilote and his Stetson team with a 4 p.m. match, Friday, Mar. 28 and then the Owls on Saturday, Mar. 29 at 10 a.m., both taking place at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center in DeLand.
