DeLAND—Sophomore Dustin Dingus finished second overall along with his Stetson Hatter teammates as the Stetson Invitational concluded on Tuesday at Victoria Hills Golf Club.

Dingus carded his second straight 70 on Tuesday, finishing at 1-over par 219 (79-70-70). He finished 12 strokes behind individual medalist Ryan Fricker of Bethune-Cookman, who carded his second straight 68 en route to the tournament championship.

Bethune-Cookman won the team title, shooting 295 on Tuesday to finish tournament play at 888 (293-300-295). Stetson shot 305 on Tuesday and finished second at 907 (303-299-305).

“I think it’s great that we finally finished second at our home tournament,” said head coach Larry Watson. “It’s the best finish we’ve had this fall.”

Two other Hatters enjoyed top 10 finishes on Tuesday. Dirk Kuehler finished tied for fourth at 225 (72-76-77), and Matt Taylor tied for 10th at 231 (77-74-80).

Freshman Eliott Azoulay, who withdrew from Monday’s play with an injury, returned to the lineup on Tuesday and shot 78. Sophomore David Torres missed the final round with illness.

“We are aspiring to get better,” said Watson. “We had some unfortunate things happen this week with injuries and illness, but that’s part of golf. Overall, I was proud of the effort.”

Five individuals competed for the Hatters this week. Zach Stark finished ninth overall after a 76 on Tuesday left him at 230 (76-78-76). Brian Kehoe tied for 16th at 234 (77-77-80), and Michael Primavera tied for 20th at 235 (78-76-81).

Tyler White finished 24th at 237 (80-79-78) and Andrew Peterson finished tied for 25th at 243 (86-78-79).
