HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Stetson University men’s tennis team is on a roll, having won four straight, the latest by way of a 6-1 decision at Northern Kentucky, Saturday afternoon.
The Hatters (10-8, 5-2) jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead against the Norse, after sweeping all three doubles matches.
Hans Adrian Riseng and Nathan Debut were victorious on court No. 2 (8-3) and then the No. 78 ranked pairing of Chester Espie and Laurynas Antropikas clinched the first Hatter point with an 8-3 decision on court No. 1. Simon Julin and Graham Ball made it three for three with an 8-4 win on court No. 3, heading into singles play.
Ball led things off with a 6-0, 6-0 win on court No. 5, while Cahit Kapukiran’s 6-2, 6-0 triumph on court No. 4 set the stage for Espie, who on court No. 6 clinched the match for his team with a 6-2, 6-1 decision.
Debut and Antropikas extended the Hatter lead to 6-0 with wins on courts No. 1 and 2 respectively before the Norse stole their lone victory of the afternoon on court No. 3.
“Our doubles play was excellent today, all across the board,” said Associate Head Coach Christophe Noblet. “For the first time this season we won at all three positions, and we did so in a decisive manner."
The Hatters’ four match win streak has come against four A-Sun opponents, as they defeated Mercer, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb and Northern Kentucky during an eight day stretch.
Stetson finishes out the regular season with a road tilt with Florida Gulf Coast, Saturday, Apr. 12 at Fort Myers, before the A-Sun Championship begins (Apr. 18-20) at North Florida.
