DeLAND—Freshman Alessandra Kutz fired an even par 72 to help lead the Stetson women’s golf team to a come-from-behind win during the final round of the Hatter Classic, Tuesday at Victoria Hills Golf Club.

The victory is the seventh straight Hatter Classic win for the Hatters. Head coach Floyd Kerr was understandably pleased.

“It’s pretty exciting,” he said. “I’m excited for the seniors on our team. They’ve been able to win this tournament every year, so good for them. It’s a great way to end the fall season.”

The Hatters entered Tuesday trailing Daytona State by two strokes (602-604). But the Hatters shot 305 in the final round while DSC faltered in extremely windy conditions, shooting 311. Stetson finished the tournament at 909 while Daytona State finished at 913.

Kutz finished second, shooting 4-over par 220 (72-76-72) for the tournament. Her 72 on Tuesday was the low score of the round. Daytona State’s Tiffany Chan (215) captured individual medalist honors.

“Alessandra played very well,” said Kerr. “We had a pretty good team effort all the way around despite the tough conditions.”

Three other Hatters finished in the top 10. Giulia Vandenburg shot a 79 on Tuesday and finished fourth overall at 229 (76-74-79). Jenna Hoecker tied for fifth after a 76 left her at 232 (75-81-76) for the tournament.

Ryan Ashburn shot 78 on Tuesday and finished tied for 10th at 234 (79-77-78). Mallory Viera finished 12th at 235 (74-80-81).

Stetson fielded two teams during the Hatter Classic, with the white team finishing sixth. Claudia Redinger paced the white team with a 16th-place finish after an 81 on Tuesday put her at 243 (83-79-81) for the tournament.

Valeria Llovet tied for 20th at 247 (82-85-80), while Zsofia Szurovszki was 27th at 260 (86-86-88).

Courtney Denson was 28th at 272 (98-84-90) and Christina Gerecke was 29th at 284 (98-90-96).
