MARIETTA, Ga. – The Stetson men’s tennis team (12-1, 3-0) picked up its third sweep of the season, defeating Kennesaw State (3-10, 0-2) by a score of 7-0 on Friday afternoon in Marietta, Ga.
“The men's team played very well today in challenging weather conditions,” Stetson Director of Tennis Pierre Pilote said.
Stetson began the match by taking the doubles point and a 1-0 lead. Freshman Laurynas Antropikas and sophomore Hans Adrian Riseng defeated Tobi Menhofer and Louis Theodor by a score of 8-4. Senior Didrik Berg and freshman Simon Julin were defeated by Gianni Kubin and Maksim Yorsh by a score of 8-6, evening the doubles matches at 1-1.
In singles, Stetson won all six matches to complete the sweep. Julin extended his unbeaten singles streak, defeating Kubin by a score of 6-0, 6-0 and Kapukiran defeated Theodor by a score of 6-0, 6-1. At number five singles, freshman Egor Panyushkin defeated Pena by a score of 6-2, 6-1, clinching the match for the Hatters.
Sophomore Chester Espie defeated Ozdemir by a score of 6-3, 6-3 and Antropikas defeated Yorsh 6-4, 6-2. Berg returned to the singles lineup after being sidelined with an injury, and defeated Menhofer 6-1, 7-5 at the number one singles position.
"I believe the team got a lot of energy and confidence from Didrik finally returning to our singles line-up,” Pilote said.
Stetson returns to action tomorrow afternoon, when the Hatters take on Mercer. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
