The Stetson lacrosse team fell to Saint Joseph’s by a score of 16-5 on Tuesday night at the Athletic Training Center. Sophomore Paige Levesque led the Hatters with two goals in the defeat.
Neither team was able to take an advantage early, as it took the Hawks nearly 10 minutes to score the first goal of the game. St. Joe’s finally got on the board 9:28 into the game, and then came back with another score 27 seconds late to make it 2-0 early.
Stetson countered with an unassisted score from sophomore Danielle Horgan, but the rest of the first half was all Hawks. St. Joe’s scored six in a row to go into the break leading 8-1.
The Hawks opened the scoring in the second half before Levesque found the back of the net for the first time off of an assist from freshman Lindsay Summers with 26:56 to play.
The two teams traded a pair of goals as Levesque finished off an assist from sophomore Maylis Broderick, and freshman Christina Loya put home a free position attempt to make it 11-4 in favor of the Hawks with 21:19 to play.
St. Joe’s outscored the Hatters 5-1 for the remainder of the contest to earn the 16-5 victory. Stetson sophomore Mary Kate O’Sullivan scored from Horgan late in the second half.
Julia Falcone and Val Paolucci led all players with four goals each. Emily Bowers and Nora McCallion each tallied three assists in the win. Allison Heath picked up six ground balls and four draw controls, while causing six turnovers for the Hawks.
Summers led Stetson with five ground balls and four caused turnovers, while sophomore Amanda Parker recorded a team high four draw controls.
Stetson will conclude its three-game home stand on Monday, playing host to Wagner. The Hatters and the Seahawks are scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. from the Athletic Training Center.
