JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Stetson lacrosse team (0-12, 0-1) lost its first Atlantic Sun Conference contest of the season on Saturday, falling to league-leading Jacksonville (9-3, 2-0) by a score of 20-3 in Jacksonville.

The Dolphins scored 55 seconds into the game, and went on to take an 8-0 lead with 18:10 to play in the first half.  Stetson finally got on the board when sophomore Samantha Akl tallied sixth goal of the season on an unassisted score just about midway through the first frame.

Jacksonville, which defeated Kennesaw State 22-2 in its first conference contest last week, scored three more to take an 11-1 advantage into the break.

Stetson, thanks to leading scorer freshman Maylis Broderick, attempted to get back into the game with two goals in the first seven minutes of the second half.  Broderick scored on a free position to open the second half scoring, and after two goals by the Dolphins, she put her 11th in the back of the net to make it 13-3 with 23 minutes to play.

The Hatters weren’t able to score the rest of the way, as Jacksonville tallied seven more over the course of the final 20 minutes to conclude with the 20-3 victory.

The Dolphins outshot Stetson by a large margin, and recorded many more ground balls than the Hatters, but Head Coach Nicole Moore’s club was able to compete in a number of categories with the veteran Jacksonville squad.

Stetson finished with 10 draw controls, just four less than the Dolphins, and the Hatters held Jacksonville to an inefficient 2-of-8 on free position opportunities.  Freshman Caili Guilday finished with 15 saves in the defeat.

The Hatters will next return home after a three-game road trip to host a pair of A-Sun contests.  Stetson takes on Detroit Friday, April 12, and then plays host to Kennesaw State Sunday, April 14.
