In its second-to-last match of the regular season, the Stetson University volleyball team dropped a 3-1 (25-14, 25-15, 20-25, 25-17) decision to host Lipscomb Friday night at Allen Arena.
Tiffany Creamer (11 kills, 10 digs) and Kaley Melville (10 kills, 11 digs) each reached double-doubles to lead the Hatters. Kayla Weller added 37 assists, and Alexa Drost picked up 17 digs.
"The girls came out flat in games one and two, but I was proud of them for picking it up in games three and four," Stetson head coach Tim Loesch said. "Some of the girls were playing through injuries and illnesses, and overall I was pleased with the effort. After we got down a couple of games we didn't give up and fought back and made it into a match."
Loesch also said that Madison Akins and Michelle Kastner gave the team a spark off the bench, and Drost was very steady at the libero position.
The Hatters (18-14, 9-8 A-Sun) learned that they will play Florida Gulf Coast in next week's Atlantic Sun Championship quarterfinals as the Eagles clinched a playoff berth and at least a no. 5 seed with a win at Northern Kentucky. Stetson and FGCU are tied for fourth in the league standings the teams' seedings will be determined after play is completed on Saturday.
Jewell Dobson had 18 kills to lead the Bisons (20-7, 14-3).
Stetson will close the regular season at Northern Kentucky at 3 p.m. Saturday.
