The Stetson sand volleyball team fell twice in a home Atlantic Sun Conference doubleheader to UNF on Wednesday, coming up short by scores of 3-2 and 4-1 at the Stetson sand volleyball courts.

Trailing 2-0 in the first contest, Stetson (9-9, 3-3 A-Sun) rallied to tie the match with wins by Erika White and Erin Robertson at the no. 3 spot and by Savannah Byl and Maren Rygh at the no. 2 position. However, UNF's top pair of Dagnija Media and Anna Budinska was able to outlast Kaley Melville and Julie Bassett in a tightly contested three-set match, 2-1.

Alisa Hoffman and Catherine Coston accounted for the Hatters lone win the second match, although Byl and Rygh came up just short in a third set tiebreaker, 15-13.

"There were some high points and some low points," Stetson assistant coach Meghan Bryant said. "UNF is a good team, and to be honest, they match up with us really well. We had a couple of teams step up - Savannah and Maren played really well as did Erin and Erika against the no. 5 seed. We struggled in the other sets, and it wasn't because we played poorly, we just couldn't capitalize on what we needed to capitalize on, and they did.

"I think it comes down to doing just one or two things differently," Bryant added. "We didn't play smart today, we played timid for the most part. It is something we have struggled with at times. We need to be more aggressive and build some momentum going into the A-Sun tournament."

Stetson fell to 3-6 in matches decided by a 3-2 margin.

"We just have to find that killer instinct," head coach Tim Loesch said. "It has bitten us a couple times this year. We have won some close ones, but we have lost a lot of close ones, too."

The Hatters will host Mercer in another A-Sun doubleheader at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
