NASHVILLE, Tenn. The Stetson men’s basketball team ended regular season play with an 83-76 loss on the road to Lipscomb Saturday morning. The Hatters finished 5-13 in Atlantic Sun Conference play and will play as the number eight seed against top seeded Florida Gulf Coast on Tuesday.

“Offensively we did a good job,” Stetson head coach Corey Williams said after the game. “Defensively we couldn’t come up with enough stops. When we had to make stops we didn’t do it. We needed guys to step up and fight through screens. Anytime you’re on the road you need to make plays. You have to go out and take it.”

After taking the lead at 9-8 on a jumper by senior Hunter Miller with 14:32 to play in the first half, Stetson continued to lead throughout the first period. The Hatters extended their advantage to as many as eight points when freshman B.J. Glasford converted at traditional three-point play to make it 26-18 with just 5:57 left in the first frame.

Glasford helped lead the Stetson charge in the first half, scoring a team high eight points off the bench as the Hatters led 38-26 at the break. Stetson was in foul trouble throughout the half, as six Hatters had two fouls, and senior Raymone Andrews picked up three.

A 7-0 run by the Bisons early in the second put Lipscomb up 45-40 just two minutes in. The Hatters fell behind by seven points, at 64-57, before fighting back to cut the Lipscomb lead to just one point, at 73-72. Three-pointers by Andrews and Miller highlighted the run that ended with 4:47 to play in the game.

Lipscomb’s Martin Smith countered with a triple, and the Bisons went on to win by the final score of 83-76.

Stetson played well offensively, shooting 54.5 percent from the floor, but struggled to keep Lipscomb off the line. The Bisons went 31-of-40 from the charity stripe, which included a 10-for-12 effort by Malcolm Smith.

Four Hatters finished in double figures for the game, led by Miller’s career high 17 points. Senior Willie Green totaled 15 points, while junior Kentwan Smith and Glasford chipped in with 11 points in the defeat.

Josh Williams led all players with 23 points and 13 rebounds in the victory for Lipscomb. Martin Smith added 20 points, while Malcolm totaled 18.

Stetson will continue the 2013-14 season on Tuesday, playing the A-Sun Quarterfinals at Florida Gulf Coast. The eighth seeded Hatters and the top seeded Eagles will tip-off at 7:00 p.m. from Fort Myers on ESPN3.
