Cross Country Teams Compete at Invite

TITUSVILLE, Fla. - The Stetson cross country team competed at the Invitational 14 on Friday evening with the women's team finishing second overall, and the men's team placing fourth among all teams. Against just Division I schools, both squads took third place.

The men recorded 80 points, falling to Florida International (52) and champion Florida (18) among D1 schools. The Hatters defeated Bethune-Cookman (90) and Jacksonville (99) among the Division I schools competing on Friday.

Stetson's top finisher was once again senior Andrew Epifanio. He placed 10th, crossing the line in 16:19.10 on the five kilometer course.

Freshman Joe Beery wasn't far behind, recording a time of 16:36.00 to place 11th. Sophomore Ryan Hodgins took 18th place after finishing in 17:10.90.

Sophomores Andrew Townes and Cody Malloy rounded out the scoring for the Hatters. The former placed 20th in 17:29.30, while the latter recorded a time of 17:46.00 and placed 21st.

The Hatter women placed second out of 12 teams overall, falling just to UCF.  Stetson (76 points overall) topped A-Sun foe Jacksonville, which tied for third with 88 points. Among D1 teams, Stetson placed third, scoring 64 points. UCF won the meet with a total of 30 points.

Freshman Samantha Hicks was the top finisher for the Hatters for the first time in her career, placing sixth overall in a time of 18:56.80 on the five kilometer course.

Fellow freshman Amanda Spring placed ninth overall in a time of 19:06.10, while sophomore Adrienne DeVita recorded a time of 19:30.60 and placed 13th.

Freshman Daniella Godenzi and senior Sabrina Guzsvany rounded out the scoring for the women. The former placed 17th in a time of 19:53.60. The latter crossed the line in 20:16.20 to place 21st.

Stetson will continue the season on October 18 at the UCF Black and Gold Invitational.
