The Stetson sand volleyball team enjoyed a successful day of pool and bracket play at the Fiesta on Siesta Key on Saturday.

After several single-set matches in pool play, six of the Hatters 10 pairs advanced to play in the gold bracket, two teams competed in the silver bracket, and one team each competed in the bronze and copper brackets.

"It was a long day but a good day," Stetson head coach Tim Loesch said. "I was very proud of the team for excelling against a variety of teams and styles. We got contributions from everybody. Our lower seeds did exceptionally well, beating some teams that were higher ranked. It was a great experience and definitely good preparation for the A-Sun tournament next week. I was real proud of all the girls."

In the gold bracket, Katie DiGirolamo and Savannh Byl advanced to the semi-finals and finished tied for third in the bracket. Maren Rygh and Kaley Melville, Stephanie Marin and Evann Dickerson, and Catherine Coston and Alisha Hoffman each tied for ninth. Erika White and Jordann Dierickx and Julie Bassett and Claudia Kalin each tied for 17th.

Erin Robertson and Madison Tormey competed in the silver bracket, as did Taylor Kennedy and Kendale Speyerer.

Ellen Hawks and Kara Young competed in the bronze bracket, while Taylor Story and Samantha Freeman competed in the copper bracket.

Stetson finished second in the team standings behind Florida State.

The Hatters will now prepare for next weekend's Atlantic Sun Conference Championship at Jacksonville University.
