BRASELTON, Ga. – Mercer carded a 3-over par 291 on Tuesday to take a two-shot advantage over first-round leader Kennesaw State following 36 holes of the 2014 Atlantic Sun Conference Men’s Golf Championship.

The event is being contested at the par-72, 7,032-yard Legends Course at Chateau Elan Golf Club in Braselton.

The Stetson Hatters improved their score by 10 shots on Monday from Sunday's opening round, and will enter the final round of the tournament three shots behind Florida Gulf Coast for ninth place.

The Bears, who were led by a 2-under par 70 from senior James Beale, sit atop the field with a 5-over par 581, two-shots ahead of Kennesaw State (583). The Owls, after opening the tournament with an even-par 288, shot a second-round 7-over par 295.

East Tennessee State and North Florida are tied for third at 16-over par 592. Jacksonville (603) is in fifth and followed by Lipscomb (615), USC Upstate (616), Northern Kentucky (619), Florida Gulf Coast (623) and Stetson (626).

After opening with a 1-over par 73 on Sunday, Beale followed that effort with three birdies and bogey en route to a 2-under par round. The Mercer senior holds a one-shot lead over four players. North Florida’s Taylor Hancock, Kennesaw State’s Austin Vick, Mercer’s Trey Rule and Northern Kentucky’s Corey Richmond are at even-par 144.

The Hatters are led by sophomore Dustin Dingus, who has posted consecutive scores of 77 in the first two rounds of play. He is tied for 27th overall with a score of 154.

Freshman Dirk Kuehler is two shots back in a tie for 33rd after a second round score of 76.

Junior Matt Taylor is tied for 41st after slipping from an opening round score of 77 to an 82 on Monday. Sophomores Andrew Peterson (160) is tied for 43rd and David Torres (164) is 47th.

The A-Sun Conference Championships conclude with third-round play on Tuesday beginning at 8 a.m. (ET). All the action can be followed live on the Internet at www.golfstatresults.com.
