Men's Golf Slips to Eighth at Cobra-Puma Invite

MIROMAR LAKES, Fla.—Stetson men’s golf fired a final round 304 and slipped four spots, finishing eighth at the 13-team Cobra-Puma Invitational, which concluded play on Monday at Miromar Lakes Country Club.

The Hatters finished three rounds of play with an overall score of 892 (298-290-304). Stetson entered Monday’s final round fourth overall and within striking distance of second place but faltered.

Co-host Florida Gulf Coast captured team champion honors by shooting 855 (282-286-287). The Eagles topped Florida Atlantic (868) by 13 strokes. FGCU’s Edward Figueroa and St. John’s Ryan McCormick tied for individual medalist honors, each finishing tournament play at 12-under par 204. The pair ran away from the field, with the nearest individual competitors concluding play six strokes behind.

Sophomore Dustin Dingus led the way for the Hatters, finishing tied for 16th at 219 (72-71-76). Junior co-captain Matt Taylor finished tied for 33rd at 224 (75-74-75) in his first start of the season.

David Torres (76-77-75) and Eliott Azoulay (75-75-78) tied for 43rd at 228, while Zach Stark tied for 59th at 234 (81-70-83).

The Hatters conclude their fall season next week when they host the Stetson Invitational, Nov. 4-5 at Victoria Hills Golf Club in DeLand.
