Spartanburg, S.C. - The Stetson men's golf team concluded the 2010-11 regular season on Tuesday with a 10th place showing in the Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational at the Country Club of Spartanburg. Junior Sam Ryder (Longwood, Fla.) was Stetson's top performer overall, tying for 20th place, while senior Gabe Costa (Tequesta, Fla.) was the low Hatter in the final round with an even par 72.
After rounds of 74-71 yesterday, Ryder re-enacted his first round with a two over par 74 to finish three over par for 54 holes and tie for 20th place, nine strokes behind tournament winner Jacobo Pastor of Charleston Southern. Costa's 72 was his second straight round of even par or better; he tied for 34th place at seven over par overall. Juniors Micah Jacobsen (Fernandina Beach, Fla.) and Andrew Schiano (Orlando, Fla.) each shot 76 on Tuesday while freshman Matt Lawrence (Naples, Fla.) rounded out the group with a 79.
A-Sun rival ETSU used a four under par 284 in Tuesday's final round to rally for a six under par 858 total score and a five-stroke win over Richmond. Stetson came in at 25 over par, good for 10th place out of 15 teams. Also finishing ahead of the Hatters were Campbell (+6), Charleston Southern (+12), host Wofford (+14), Radford (+16), Elon (+17), Gardner-Webb (+17) and Samford (+22). Longwood (+27), USC Upstate (+28), Appalachian State (+31), Presbyterian (+37) and High Point (+40) also competed in the event.
Stetson is now off until the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships, set for April 18-20 in Braselton, Ga. GolfStatResults.com will have live scoring of the A-Sun Championships, where both the team and individual winners will advance to NCAA regional competition.
