Spartanburg, S.C. - The Stetson men's golf team shot 15 over par 591 over the first 36 holes of the Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational on Monday to put itself in 12th place entering tomorrow's final round. Junior Sam Ryder (Longwood, Fla.) shot 74-71 and is tied for 19th place at one over par.
The Hatters improved the second time around the course, going from an 11 over par 299 to a four over par 292 in the afternoon. Senior Gabe Costa (Tequesta, Fla.) shook off a disappointing 81 with a two under par 70 in the second round; at seven over par he is tied with teammates Micah Jacobsen (Fernandina Beach, Fla.) and Andrew Schiano (Orlando, Fla.). They shot 76-75 and 73-78 respectively while freshman Matt Lawrence (Naples, Fla.) came in with consecutive rounds of four over par 76.
Ryder is six strokes behind the leaders, a four-way tie at -5 among Kristopher Gray (Gardner-Webb), Vaita Guillaume (Campbell), Mark Joye (Wofford) and Jacobo Pastor (Charleston Southern). Guillaume had the low round of the day with a 65 in the second session.
Richmond sits at 13 under par and enjoys a commanding 11-stroke lead over Campbell and ETSU in the team standings; Stetson is third among the four A-Sun teams competing this week. Charleston Southern (+2), Samford (+4), host Wofford (+5), Gardner-Webb (+8), Appalachian State (+9), Radford (+9), Longwood (+11) and Elon (+14) also lead the Hatters (+15) with USC Upstate (+21), Presbyterian (+21) and High Point (+29) slotting in behind Stetson.
The final round of the Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational begins tomorrow morning at the Country Club of Spartanburg.
