The men’s Stetson/CFSC Invitational and the women’s Holiday Inn Express/Hatter Classic will both be contested at the same time starting Monday morning at 7:30 a.m.
Both tournaments will feature seven visiting teams which are scheduled to play 36 holes of competition on Monday. The tournaments will conclude on Tuesday with 18 holes of competition.
In the men’s tournament, the Hatters will be joined by Appalachian State, Florida Atlantic, Florida A&M, Florida Gulf Coast, High Point, Bethune-Cookman and Lipscomb.
Coach Bob Weickel’s Hatters will be looking to bounce back from a 15th place finish in their last outing at the Wendy’s Kiawah Classic last week at Charleston, SC. Stetson was led in that event by senior Sam Ryder, whose eight-over par score of 224 was good to tied for 18th in the event.
Ryder will be joined in the Stetson tournament by junior Micah Jacobson, senior Andrew Schiano, freshman Matt Taylor and freshman John Blake Snellings. Two other Hatters, sophomores Ed Waller and Trey White, will compete as individuals in the event.
Stetson will be looking to break the stranglehold on the tournament in recent years by Florida Gulf Coast. The Eagles have won the event three of the last four years, with only a Stetson victory in 2008 spoiling that run.
FGCU posted a seven-under par team score of 857 last year, led by individual tournament medalist Daniel Mazziotta, whose six-under par 210 earned top honors. Mazziotta does not return to defend his title this year, leaving the leaderboard wide open.
The men will open the tournament on the front nine at Victoria Hills, with the Hatters starting play on holes 1, 2 and 3 for the 7:30 a.m. shotgun start.
