Greensboro, N.C. - Stetson senior Sam Ryder (Longwood, Fla.) completed the second round of the NCAA Men's Golf Greensboro Regional on Friday, shooting six over par 78 at Grandover Resort's East Course. He is tied for 24th overall at five over par with one round to go.
Ryder, the Atlantic Sun Conference tournament champion, opened with a one under par 71 yesterday but found tougher sledding on this day. Starting on the back nine, he nearly made up for three bogies in the first six holes with birdies at 14 and 17 for a 37, but a double bogey six at the par four first hole made Ryder's climb tougher. Three bogies in the round's final four holes left Ryder five over par for the tournament, eight strokes off the current cut line for NCAA championship advancement.
Campbell's Vaita Guillaume holds that spot at -3 for 36 holes; SMU's Matt Schovee continues to hold the overall regional lead at seven under par. Currently the top five teams that would earn the right to advance are Liberty (even par), SMU (+6), Florida (+10), Auburn (+12) and Lamar (+12). UNLV's Blake Biddle is closest to Guillaume at one under par with a trio of competitors sitting at even par.
In tomorrow's third round, Ryder will tee off the 10th hole at 9:40 am in a trio with George Washington's Taylor Fuqua and Ryan Triller of Mount St. Mary's.
