Lake Worth, Fla. – After tying a spring low score on Saturday, the Stetson men’s golf team finished with a final round score of 301 on Sunday at the FAU Slomin Autism Invitational to finish 12th in the 15-team event.

The Hatters closed to within one shot of Bethune-Cookman for 10th place during the final round, but struggles on the final nine holes cost Stetson a chance to catch the Wildcats. The Hatters gave up 11 shots over those final nine holes, which is the exact margin Stetson finished behind B-CU.

The late slide also allowed Murray State to slip past Stetson in the final standings. The Racers posted a final round score of 293 to edge Stetson by one shot (900-901).

UCF easily held on for a six shot team victory over Georgia Southern. The Knights posted a final round score of three-under par 281 to finish with a 13-under par total of 839. GSU (845) was easily second, nine shots in front of Middle Tennessee State (854), who finished third.

UCF’s duo of Ricardo Gouveia and Greg Eason finished first and second individually. Gouveia shot an even par 71 in the final round to finish with a 10-under par score of 203. Eason posted a four-under 67 in the final round to close to within two of his teammate, finishing at eight-under par 205.

Overall, 11 players finished the tournament at even par or better.

Sophomore Dustin Dingus and freshman Dirk Kuehler led the way for the Hatters. Both players finished at 11-over par 224 for the weekend, good for a tie for 38th place.

Junior Matt Taylor finished one shot behind his teammates in 45th place. Freshman Zach Stark finished tied for 53rd with a score of 229 while sophomore Brian Kehoe finished 58th with a score of 230.

Senior Tyler White, who was playing as an individual, finished tied for 61st with a score of 232.

The Hatters will take two weeks off from competition before playing in their final spring event prior to the Atlantic Sun Championship. Stetson will compete in the Coca-Cola/Woford Invitational in Spartanburg, SC on April 14-15.

The A-Sun Championship Tournament will be played at the Legends Club at Chateau Elan in Braselton, Ga., beginning April 21.
