WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Stetson men’s tennis team improved to 2-2 on the season with a 7-0 sweep of NAIA member Northwood University on Saturday afternoon.

“I would like to start by thanking Coach Robinson for accepting to play us on such a short notice,” Stetson associate head coach Christophe Noblet said after the match. “Overall, every member of the team performed well today and I am glad we got away with a decisive win. It was good preparation for the challenging matches that are coming ahead.”

The Hatters began the match by winning two of the three doubles contests. Sophomore Cahit Kapukiran and senior Hans Adrien Riseng won 8-0 at the number one position to start things off. Junior Chester Espie and sophomore Laurynas Antropikas followed with an 8-3 win at number two to clinch the points.

Stetson didn’t lose a set all day in singles, winning in straight sets in all six matchups. Kapukiran defeated Alvaro Iturriaga at number two singles, 6-1, 6-0, and freshman Graham Ball won 6-1, 6-0 at number four to give the Hatters a 3-0 advantage.

Antropikas clinched the victory for Stetson when he won 6-0, 6-2 over Niktia Borodatov at the number one position. Sophomore Egor Panyushkin followed up with a 6-0, 6-2 win against Diego Ortega at number six, and Espie topped David Uquillas 6-2, 6-3 at number three to make it 6-0 in favor of the Hatters.
