DELAND, Fla. – The Stetson University men’s tennis team will play in back-to-back matches with Atlantic Sun Conference opponents this weekend as it hosts Mercer and Kennesaw State at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center. The Hatters will take on the Bears at 12 p.m., Friday, Mar. 28 and then the Owls at 2 p.m., Saturday, Mar. 29th.
Stetson is 6-7 on the year and 1-2 in A-Sun play. The Hatters last played against UAB on Tuesday and are in the midst of a five match home stand, dating back to Mar. 18, when they hosted Wisconsin Green Bay.
“This weekend we are playing two good conference teams at home and we need to prepare ourselves for the challenge,” said Associate Head Coach Christophe Noblet.
The weekend slate will mark the second time this season Noblet’s squad will play on back-to-back days as his team traveled to take on USC Upstate and ETSU, Mar. 14-15 in Spartanburg and Johnson City.
"Laurynas and Chester join a very select few players in the proud history of the program to be nationally ranked," Noblet said.
Antropikas and Espie's biggest win of 2014 came on Mar. 22 in DeLand, when the pair defeated No. 61 Yannick Zuern and Caio Gomes of North Florida, 7-6, 7-5.
The doubles pair will have their first chance to play as ranked players in Friday’s contest with Mercer, which will also be the first conference match Stetson has played at home this season. Additionally, it will mark the final time the two schools will meet as A-Sun opponents in the regular season, as the Bears will be leaving for the Southern Conference for the 2014-15 season.
