DELAND, Fla. – Aided by five victories in singles play, the Stetson University men’s tennis defeated Kennesaw State 5-2, Sunday for its second straight win.

After dropping two of three doubles matches, the Hatters (8-8, 2-3), reeled off three singles victories in a row for a quick 3-1 lead. An Owl win on court No. 2 made it 3-2, but a Nathan Debut decision (4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-2) on court No. 1 clinched the win for Stetson; it’s second in three days against an A-Sun opponent.

The Hatters saw triumphs from Cahit Kapukiran (6-2, 6-1) on court No. 4 as well as Graham Ball (6-3, 6-2) on No. 5 and Chester Espie (1-6, 6-2, 6-4) on No. 6.

Simon Julin’s 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 win on court No. 3 was Stetson’s fifth and final win of the day, sending the Owls back to Georgia with their seventh loss of the year and third within the conference.

Stetson’s lone doubles victory on Sunday came from the pairing of Simon Julin and Graham Ball who were victorious 8-6 on court No. 3.

“Kennesaw fought very hard today, especially in doubles," said Associate Head Coach Christophe Noblet. "Even though we lost that point, I was glad to see Simon (Julin) and Graham (Ball) winning their match because it was actually first time they teamed up together.”

Sunday was also senior day for Stetson as Noblet and his staff said so long to Hans Adrian Riseng (Oslo, Norway).

Following the Hatters’ sweep of A-Sun opponents Mercer and Kennesaw State this weekend, they continue with conference play as they travel to Lipscomb and Northern Kentucky next week. Stetson squares off with the Bison, Friday, April 4th at 9 a.m. and then Saturday, April 5th against the Norse for a 2 p.m., matchup.

“Next weekend will be another difficult road trip," Noblet explained. "Our match against Lipscomb will definitely be special as they beat us last year in Conference tournament and I know the guys are looking forward to it.”
