Chattanooga, Tenn. - The Stetson men's tennis team won its third straight match and improved to 14-7 on the year with a 7-0 clean sweep of host Chattanooga (7-9) Friday afternoon at the UTC Tennis Courts. All six Hatters that played in the match registered singles and doubles victories.
Stetson claimed the doubles point with wins in all three matches; combinations were Didrik Berg (Oslo, Norway)/Cesare Gallo (Portogruaro, Italy), Njal Stene (Oslo, Norway)/Chris Swanteson (Vaxjo, Sweden) and Alex Hackett (Surrey, England)/Hans Adrian Riseng (Oslo, Norway). Stene/Swanteson won 8-4 while the other two combos won 8-5.
Four of the six singles matches ended in straight sets with only Riseng and Swanteson forced to go three sets to claim their wins. Berg earned the quickest victory, dispatching Jackson Tresnan 6-2, 6-1 in the #3 spot. Hacket won 6-2, 6-2 over Rick van de Bovenkamp on Court 4 while Gallo and Stene earned identical 6-3, 6-4 wins at the top two slots.
The Hatters continue their journey north through Tennessee when they visit four-time defending Atlantic Sun Conference champions ETSU at 11 a.m. tomorrrow in Johnson City.
