DeLand, Fla. - The Stetson men's tennis team (5-1, 1-0 Atlantic Sun) opend the A-Sun portion of its schedule with a 6-1 home win over Kennesaw State (5-6, 0-2 A-Sun) Saturday at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center. Five Hatters were double winners on the day.
Stetson won all three doubles matches in fairly short order to start out the morning up 1-0. Junior Didrik Berg (Oslo, Norway) and freshman Nathan Debut (Toulon, France) won 8-2 on Court 3 over Gianni Kubin and Alex Toliver and the pairing of sophomore Hans Adrian Riseng (Oslo, Norway) and senior Njal Stene (Oslo, Norway) won 8-4 over Michael Browder and Simon Janik on Court 1.
In singles competition, Stetson earned four straight-set victories and one in a third-set tiebreaker to claim the 6-1 match win. Riseng powered past Ozdemir 6-1, 6-1 on Court 4 and Debut cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 triumph over Kubin on Court 5 to make it 3-0 Hatters and Stene solidified the fourth point by beating Theodor 6-2, 6-4 on Court 2. Levanovich earned a straight set win of his own at the top of the lineup over Toliver (7-5, 6-0) while Berg knocked off Janik 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 at #3 singles.
Stetson Director of Tennis Pierre Pilote said, "This was a solid start to our A-Sun schedule and a very good performance from top to bottom. The team dealt with today's windy conditions with great poise."
