Fort Myers, Fla. - The Stetson men's tennis team improved to 14-4 overall and 5-2 in A-Sun action with a 5-2 win at FGCU (6-8, 3-4 A-Sun) Saturday afternoon at the FGCU Tennis Complex. Four Hatters won their matches in both singles and doubles.
Stetson earned a clean sweep of the three doubles matches, although the Hatters had to work hard to do so. Junior Didrik Berg (Oslo, Norway) and freshman Nathan Debut (Toulon, France) won 8-2 on Court 3 over Colin Brown and Jackson Moore for a quick start, but senior Maksim Levanovich (Minsk, Belarus) and freshman Chester Espie (Auckland, New Zealand) had to battle to put down Tianyu Bao and Michael Beiler 8-6 on Court 2. Sophomore Hans Adrian Riseng (Oslo, Norway) and senior Njal Stene (Oslo, Norway) won 8-7 (7-5) on Court 1 for the sweep.
The Hatters won the first three singles matches to finish in straight sets to put the match out of reach. Berg beat Dean Tsamas 6-4, 6-4 on Court 3 and Espie knocked off Beiler 6-2, 7-5 on Court 6 to put Stetson on the cusp; a 6-0, 7-6 victory for Debut on Court 5 against Lance Lvovsky put the fourth point in Stetson's column. Also winning for Stetson today was Stene, who outlasted Moore 6-4, 7-6 on Court 2.
Stetson concludes the A-Sun regular season next weekend, traveling to Nashville, Tennessee to battle Belmont on Friday and Lipscomb on Saturday.
