PALM COAST, Fla. – Sophomore Cahit Kapukiran’s run through qualifying at the ITF Future USA-F4 finally came to an end on Monday, as he fell to number one overall seed Eric Prodon 6-2, 6-1 in the final round of competition.
“All weekend long, Cahit has shown great fighting spirit, especially with his two three-set win,” Stetson associate head coach Christophe Noblet said. “Reaching the final round of qualifying in such a high level tournament is no easy task.”
Kapukiran won his first three matches at the ITF Futures in Palm Coast before falling to Prodon, who was once ranked 83rd in the world.
“Overall, it was a great tournament with many good wins for us,” Noblet continued. “The players have battled through difficult weather conditions, played on a different surface, but ultimately competed at the highest level.”
Stetson will continue regular season play with the Hatters’ home opener on Sunday, Feb. 2. Stetson hosts Georgia Southern at 1:00 p.m. at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.
