Visiting Holy Cross outscored the Stetson lacrosse team 11-0 in the first half en route to a 19-3 victory on Sunday afternoon at the Athletic Training Center.

The Crusaders (1-4) earned their first victory of the season after outshooting the Hatters 34-15 and picking up 26 ground balls to Stetson’s 16. Holy Cross was a perfect 14-for-14 on clear attempts and turned the ball over just 11 times, while the Hatters gave it up 22 times.

Sara Hennessey led all players with five goals, while Tess MacKay added four scores. Maddie Ward chipped in with three goals and Kaitlin Concilio led the Crusaders with four assists in the win.

Stetson (0-6) scored all three of its goals in the second half, beginning when sophomore Danielle Horgan scored unassisted with 21:35 to play in the game. Freshman Ana Baranowski and sophomore Mallory Tluchowski scored on a pair of free positions to make the final score 19-3.

Laura Ryan totaled a game high five draw controls and tied Hennessey for the team lead with three caused turnovers in the win.

Hatter sophomore Mary Kate O’Sullivan led all Stetson players with four draw controls won, while freshman Christina Wittmeier led the way with three ground balls and tied for the team lead with two caused turnovers.

Sophomores Caili Guilday and Whitney Meyers split time between the pipes on Sunday. The former made seven saves while allowing 11 goals in the first half. The latter allowed eight goals and made three saves in the second.

Stetson will continue non-conference action with its first true road game of the season on Wednesday. The Hatters play at Coastal Carolina at 6:00 p.m.
