Alessandra Kutz, who will be a freshman member of the Stetson University women’s golf team this fall, fired a round of 72 on Monday to earn her way into the 2013 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship.

Kutz, from Sanford, was one of eight players to post a qualifying score on the South Course at Quail Ridge Country Club in Boynton Beach. Her even par round of 72 earned her a ticket to Charleston, SC, for the U.S. Women’s Amateur, which will be played at the Country Club of Charleston August 5-11.

“It was a very comfortable round,” Kutz told her Stetson coach Floyd Kerr. “I hit 15 greens in regulation. It was like a walk in the park.”

Kutz posted 12 pars, three birdies and three bogeys to earn one of the qualifying spots. Ashley Burke of Boynton Beach earned medalist honors with a three-under par score of 69.

Kerr said the experience of playing in the U.S. Women’s Amateur should give Kutz an idea of what college golf will be like.

“There will be so many good college players there. Kerr said. “This will give her a good taste of what it will be like this fall.”

The U.S. Women’s Amateur will include two days of stroke play before the field is cut to 64 players for match play to determine the champion.
