Stetson University’s Sammi Smith got her summer off to a good start last week when she qualified for the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship.
Smith, who will be a senior next season, played in a qualifying tournament in Greenwood, Indiana, and finished second. The qualifier was played at the Hickory Stick Golf Course.
“Shooting a 76 in very tough, windy and rainy, conditions on a difficult course was good enough for second place,” Smith said in an e-mail. “I received one of the two qualifying spots, allowing me to advance to the national championship.”
The event will be played in Norman, Okla., at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club June 17-22.
“I am excited to represent Stetson in this very prestigious tournament,” Smith said.
