Daytona Beach, Fla. – After a disastrous start on Saturday in the Bash at the Beach, the Stetson women’s golf team came back on Sunday to battle their way back to third in the two-day event.
The tournament, which was hosted by Embry-Riddle at the LPGA Jones Course, served as the final tune-up for Stetson before the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship, which starts on Monday, April 14.
The Hatters opened the tournament on Saturday with a 313, which was the teams’ worst round of the year. The result was a spot in fifth place in a tournament that did not include any other Division I teams.
On Sunday the Hatters came back with a round of 299, good for the second best round of the day. The result was that Stetson (612) finished in third place, behind Lynn University and Flagler.
Lynn, which is the defending Division II national champion and is currently ranked No. 1 in the nation in DII, coasted to the victory, posting scores of 297 and 282. Their total of 579 was 27 shots better than Flagler (606).
Seminole State College, led by tournament medalist Chanya Angwarawong, finished fourth. Angwarawong finished the tournament with a five-under par score of 141 to win by two shots over Lynn’s Samantha Smolen (143). Lynn’s five players finished second through sixth in the tournament.
Freshman Giulia Vandenberg (176) played as an individual and finished in 52nd place.
