Orange Park, Fla. - The Stetson women's golf team put up the third-best final round score in the 18-team JMU Eagle Landing Invitational field on Sunday, carding a 10 over par 298 and finishing the tournament in sixth place at +42 for 54 holes. Freshman Mallory Viera (Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.) led the Hatters on the day with an even par 72 while sophomore Alexandria Buelow (Palm City, Fla.) tied for seventh place overall at four over par.
Buelow finished Sunday with her second straight round of one over par 73 to solidify her top 10 finish while Viera shot par or better for the second time in three days and tied for 15th overall at seven over par. Also scoring for the Hatters on Sunday were junior Lauren Cate (St. Augustine, Fla.) with a 75 and senior Alex Banham (Peterborough, England) with a tournament-low 78. Freshman Jenna Hoecker (Rochester, N.Y.) came in with an 84. Stetson's two individual-only competitors, freshmen Ryan Ashburn (Largo, Fla.) and Claudia Redinger (Durban, South Africa), shot 82 and 81 respectively.
Buelow came in 11 strokes behind Chattanooga's Christine Wolf; the nation's 95th-ranked golfer set a tournament record with her seven under par finish for a four-stroke victory over her UTC teammate Emma de Groot. Miami's Maria Ronderos placed third at -1.
34th-ranked Chattanooga cruised to a 33-stroke victory in the team competition, finishing -5 to outdistance second place East Carolina (+28) and the rest of the field. Campbell took third at 30 over par with USF (+39) and Miami (Fla.) (+39) both narrowly edging the 42 over par Hatters as well. Slotting in behind Stetson were Illinois (+44), Maryland (+48), Longwood (+52), UNC Greensboro (+55), FGCU (+56), host James Madison (+56), Kennesaw State (+58), Illinois State (+58), Georgetown (+62), Central Arkansas (+66), Elon (+72) and Jacksonville (+95).
The Hatters next tee it up this Friday-Saturday in Port St. Lucie, Fla. for the Homewood Suites Invitational, hosted by Siena.
