St. Augustine, Fla. - Junior Lauren Cate (St. Augustine, Fla.) carded rounds of 75-72 in her hometown to put herself in second place at three over par after the first two rounds of the World Golf Village Intercollegiate on Monday at the Slammer and Squire Golf Course.  The Stetson women's golf team went out in 25 over par 313 in the morning, but improved by 12 strokes in the afternoon round to stand in second place in the nine-team field heading into tomorrow's final round.

Sophomore Alexandria Buelow (Palm City, Fla.) shot 76-74 (+6) on the day and is right behind Cate in a tie for third with FGCU's Briana Carlson and Wofford's Alex Rankin.  Daytona State's Mitsuki Katahira used a second round 68 to come in at -3 for the day and lead by six strokes over Cate and nine over Buelow, Carlson and Rankin.

Elsewhere for Stetson today, freshman Ryan Ashburn (Largo, Fla.) notched an 81 in the morning but bounced back strong with an afternoon 76; she is tied for 12th at 13 over par.  Fellow first-years Jenna Hoecker (Rochester, N.Y.) and Sammi Smith (Louisville, Ky.) rounded out the team contingent with scores of 81-79 and 83-80, respectively.  Playing as individuals in this event are senior Alex Banham (Peterborough, England) and freshman Claudia Redinger (Durban, South Africa); both showed marked improvement from Round 1 to Round 2 with 82-75 and 86-82 respective scores.  Banham is tied for 12th individually along with Ashburn.

Daytona State leads the tournament at 35 over par, three strokes up on the Hatters, who recorded the lowest second round score (301) in the field.  Florida Atlantic is a distant third at 49 over par with Cincinnati (+55), FGCU (+55), Wofford (+59), host Jacksonville (+63), Charleston Southern (+70) and USC Upstate (+98) rounding out the field.

The World Golf Village Intercollegiate concludes tomorrow with the final round of 18 holes.  With inclement weather threatening the First Coast on Tuesday, final results would stand as they are now if play is not completed.
