North Charleston, S.C. - The Stetson women's golf team shot a 26 over par 310 score in the first round of the Charleston Southern University Wendy's Invitational on Monday and is tied for fourth place in the 16-team field halfway through the event. Junior Alexandria Buelow (Palm City, Fla.) shot four over par 75 and is tied for 10th individually.
Sophomore Jenna Hoecker (Rochester, N.Y.) supported Buelow's efforts with a 76, the second-lowest round of her career and is tied for 18th at five over par. Senior Lauren Cate (St. Augustine, Fla.) is tied for 22nd after opening with a 77 while sophomores Ryan Ashburn (Largo, Fla.) and Claudia Redinger (Durban, South Africa) completed the team effort on the day with scores of 82 and 83, respectively.
Buelow's 75 leaves her five strokes off the lead currently held at -1 by Marshall's Allison Harper and Appalachian State's Rumbidzai Masamvu. Marshall leads the team competition at 15 over par, two strokes ahead of UAB and eight shots ahead of third place Gardner-Webb. The Hatters, Bucknell, Radford and Wofford all stand at +26, tied for fourth. Slotting in behind Stetson and the others are Appalachian State (+27), Jacksonville (+28), USC Beaufort (+30), host Charleston Southern (+35), Bethune-Cookman (+37), Presbyterian (+40), Armstrong Atlantic (+43), Towson (+46) and the Citadel (+47).
The 36-hole CSU Wendy's Invitational concludes tomorrow at Coosaw Creek Country Club.
