Buelow Seizes Lead, Hatters Move Up to Third

Fort Myers, Fla. - Junior Alexandria Buelow (Palm City, Fla.) shot a two under par 70 in the second round of the FIU Pat Bradley Invitational on Monday to move to even par overall and claim a one-stroke lead with 18 holes to play. The Stetson women's golf team improved on its first round score by eight strokes and rose from fifth to third place at 26 over par through 36 holes.

Buelow will be able to go head to head with her nearest competitors tomorrow when she pairs with FIU's Shelby Coyle and Eastern Michigan's Meredith Fairbairn, both of whom are tied at one over par, one stroke behind the two-time defending A-Sun Player of the Year. FIU's Katie Mundy and EMU's Alyssa Kwon are tied for fourth at +2.

Sophomores Jenna Hoecker (Rochester, N.Y.) and Sammi Smith (Louisville, Ky.) aided Buelow's efforts with identical rounds of three over par 75 on Monday with fellow sophomore Ryan Ashburn (Largo, Fla.) contributing a 77 to the team score. Senior Lauren Cate (St. Augustine, Fla.) came in with a nine over par 81 as the drop score. Sophomore Claudia Redinger (Durban, South Africa), competing as an individual improved by three strokes in the second round with her 78. Ashburn and Hoecker are tied for 18th at +7 overall with Smith tied for 34th at +10; Cate is tied for 45th at 14 over par while Redinger is tied for 51st at +15.

In the team competition, host FIU used a one over par 289 in the second round to move to 16 over par overall and claim a two-stroke lead over Eastern Michigan heading into Tuesday's final round. The Hatters are in third at +26 and will try to fend off North Texas (+28) and first round leader Boston College (+29) tomorrow. Also competing this week are Cincinnati (+35), FGCU (+38), Bradley (+43), Southern Miss (+45), Delaware (+54), Daytona State (+58), Bethune-Cookman (+71), Western Illinois (+78), Drake (+80) and Florida Atlantic (+81).

The final round at Pelican Preserve and Country Club's Egret to Ibis Course will go off tomorrow morning. Live scoring is available at
