Gainesville, Fla. - The Stetson women's golf team opened its spring season with the first two rounds of the SunTrust Gator Invitational on Sunday at Mark Bostick Golf Course, struggling to an 81 over par 241 team score and last place in an extremely tough 17-team field that features nine national top 50 opponents.  Sophomore Alexandria Buelow (Palm City, Fla.) and freshman Mallory Viera (Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.) were Stetson's top scorers on the day.

Buelow and Viera each shot 77 and 79 for the Hatters; junior Lauren Cate (St. Augustine, Fla.) was the only other Stetson golfer to break 80 on the day, shooting 78 in the first round.

Nine teams inside the Top 50 dot the field with host #34 Florida sitting at 12 over par, in possession of a huge 17-stroke lead over #38 Florida State.  #22 Arkansas (+34), #11 Iowa State (+36), #46 Coastal Carolina (+36), #29 Colorado (+36), #30 Ohio State (+39), #35 Chattanooga (+41), Georgia State (+42), Texas Tech (+47), UCF (+48), Augusta State (+49), #28 Kent State (+50), James Madison (+59), UNC Greensboro (+65) and Missouri (+68) also lead the Hatters.
