Port St. Lucie, Fla. - The Stetson women's golf team claimed its second tournament title of the season and sophomore Alexandria Buelow (Palm City, Fla.) landed in the winner's circle for the second time in 2010-11 and fourth time in her career as the Hatters dominated the Siena College Homewood Suites Invitational this weekend. Stetson golfers finished first, second, third and fourth on the individual leaderboard and the Hatters won the team title by 20 strokes.
In Saturday's final round, Buelow shot even par 72 to finish at one over par 145 for the 36-hole event, three strokes ahead of junior Lauren Cate (St. Augustine, Fla.) and six up on freshman Sammi Smith (Louisville, Ky.) The latter two each shot 75 in Round 2. Senior Alex Banham (Peterborough, England), who competed solely as an individual, bounced back from an 81 on Friay with an even par 72, a season low for her, to claim fourth place at nine over par. Buelow also tied for first at the season-opening UNCG Starmount Classic last September.
Freshman Claudia Redinger (Durban, South Africa) shot a career-low 80 and senior Lauren Eliopoulos (Akron, Ohio) finished with an 88 to round out the Stetson team scoring.
Stetson came in at 35 over par for the tournament, good enough for a huge 20-stroke margin over second place Rutgers. Fairleigh Dickinson took third at +58 with host Siena (+63), Indianapolis (+70), Dartmouth (+82), Hartford (+92), LIU (+100) and Dartmouth "B" (+103) rounding out the field.
Next weekend the Hatters head to Crystal River, Fla. for the Cincinnati Spring Invitational, an event that has produced both individual and team crowns as well for Stetson in the last three seasons.
