DeLand, Fla. - Stetson sophomore Alexandria Buelow (Palm City, Fla.) shot two over par 74 in the second round of the Atlantic Sun Conference Women's Golf Championships on Tuesday at Victoria Hills Golf Club, landing at one over par overall and taking a two-stroke lead into tomorrow's final round. As a team, the Hatters remained where they began the day, in a tie for third place with ETSU at 27 over par. Stetson is only three shots behind tournament-leading Campbell.
The two-time defending A-Sun champions got a 74 from Buelow, a 75 from junior Lauren Cate (St. Augustine, Fla.) and dueling 78s from freshmen Ryan Ashburn (Largo, Fla.) and Sammi Smith (Louisville, Ky.) to hold their position and give themselves a chance to play in tomorrow's final groupings and go after their third straight title and NCAA East Regional appearance. Freshman Mallory Viera (Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.) carded a 79 for the final score.
Cate hovers just outside the top 10 in an 11th place tie at seven over par; despite slipping on Tuesday, Viera is tied for 16th at nine over par. Ashburn is tied for 20th at +10 while Smith (+14) is tied for 28th place heading into Wednesday's final round.
Buelow (+1) is two strokes up on Campbell's Michelle Koh and FGCU's Fabienne Haremza; tied for fourth place at four over par are Sarah Bejgrowicz (Campbell), Hayley Clinning (Kennesaw State) and Larissa Steinfeldt (ETSU).
Tomorrow's final round is set up to be a terrific four-team battle for the title as Campbell (+24), Kennesaw State (+26), ETSU (+27) and the Hatters (+27) are all right in the thick of things. FGCU (+38), Mercer (+39), Belmont (+54), Jacksonville (+54), USC Upstate (+85) and Lipscomb (+88) round out the field.
Stetson will tee off in the final groupings tomorrow with players from Campbell and Kennesaw State. Live Scoring is available at http://www.golfstatresults.com//public/leaderboards/team/static/team_players_2211.html
