Fort Myers, Fla. - The Stetson women's golf team finished the FIU Pat Bradley Invitational on Tuesday with a fifth place finish in the 15-team field at 51 over par for 54 holes and junior Alexandria Buelow (Palm City, Fla.) claimed third place at two over par.
Buelow held the overnight lead in the tournament at even par and held her own with a two over par 74 in Tuesday's final round, but saw FIU's Shelby Coyle shoot three under par 69 to finish -2 and win by two strokes over Cincinnati's Andrea Malek, who shot a blistering five under par 67, the round of the tournament, to pass Buelow from behind.
The Hatters also slipped from third to fifth as a team in the final round; senior Lauren Cate (St. Augustine, Fla.) was the second-lowest scorer for Stetson on Tuesday with a 78; she tied for 39th at +20 overall with sophomore Sammi Smith (Louisville, Ky.), who came in with an 80. Sophomore Ryan Ashburn (Largo, Fla.) carded 81 to tie for 30th at 18 over par while sophomore Jenna Hoecker (Rochester, N.Y.) completed the team contingent with an 84 and a tie for 46th at +21. Sophomore Claudia Redinger (Durban, South Africa), competing as an individual, clocked in at 83 for the final round and tied for 57th at +26.
Host FIU held on to their 36-hole lead and cruised away to an 18 over par finish and a 13-stroke victory over Eastern Michigan with North Texas (+39) and Boston College (+45) also edging the Hatters (+51). Stetson finished ahead of Cincinnati (+52), Southern Miss (+61), Bradley (+62), FGCU (+69), Daytona State (+78), Delaware (+78), Drake (+112), Western Illinois (+118), Florida Atlantic (+118) and Bethune-Cookman (+128).
Stetson will complete its fall season Monday-Tuesday, November 7-8 when it hosts the annual Hatter Classic at Victoria Hills Golf Club in DeLand. The Hatters will be gunning for their fifth consecutive championship at their home tournament.
