The Stetson University women’s golf team made it five straight in the Holiday Inn Express/Hatter Classic by posting a tournament low round of 293 on Tuesday.
The Hatters, who were led by individual medalist Alexandria Buelow, pulled away from the field at Village Hills Golf Club to win the event for a fifth consecutive year. Stetson’s three-round total of 897 was 27 strokes better than second place Daytona State College.
For Buelow, the margin of victory was just as impressive. She closed with an even par round of 72 on Tuesday to finish the event at one-under par 215, good for an eight shot win over Fabienne Haremza of Florida Gulf Coast, who struggled home with a 77 on Tuesday and finished at seven-over par 223.
Daytona State’s Noriko Inoue was also in contention going into the final round, but slipped to a 79 on Tuesday and finished nine shots behind Buelow, who won this event for the second time, and for the seventh time in her collegiate career.
The Hatters placed four players in the top 10 of the tournament. Senior Lauren Cate closed with a one-over par 73 on Tuesday to finish with a total score of 226, good for sixth.
Sophomores Sammi Smith and Ryan Ashburn posted final round scores of two-over par 74, moving both into the final top 10. Smith’s 230 was good for eighth place and Ashburn’s 231 was ninth.
Another sophomore, Claudia Redinger, finished tied for 13th playing as an individual. Her final round score of 76 gave her a total score of 234. Sophomore Jenna Hoecker tied for 25th after a final round score of 79 and a total tournament score of 243.
The Hatter Classic was the final event of the fall season for the Stetson team, which will return to action in February for the start of the spring season.
