Stetson University’s Mallory Viera had a great day on Monday at the 84th Florida Women’s Amateur Match Play Championship at the Vero Beach Country Club.

Viera, who will be a senior at Stetson this fall, posted a victory over Brandi Rodriguez of Orlando in the round of 32, winning on the 20th hole. Rodriguez will be a senior this season at Southern Miss.

She followed that victory with a decisive 4 & 3 win over Anna Hancock of Lakeland. Hancock is a former player at Stetson who now plays at South Florida.

Viera, who is the sixth seeded player in the tournament, will face third seeded Katie Mitchell in the quarterfinal round on Tuesday. Mitchell, a native of Fernadina Beach, will be a junior at this fall at the University of Florida, where she sat out this year as a transfer after winning Conference USA Freshman of the Year honors at UCF in 2011-12.

Mitchell and Viera are the only two current collegiate players left in the field. The other six players are either still in high school, or will be college freshmen this coming season.

The winner of the Viera-Mitchell match will face the winner of the match between second seeded Dylan Kim and 23rd seed Kristine Odaiyar. That match is scheduled to start at 12:38 p.m. on Tuesday.

The championship of the event will be determined on Wednesday morning with play starting at 8 a.m.
