Women’s Golf Stands 8th After Round 2

Dunnellon, Fla. – The Stetson University women’s golf team, led by solid play from seniors Mallory Viera and Jenna Hoecker, are in eighth place after the second round of the MSU Ocala Spring Invitational.

The tournament, which will conclude on Tuesday, is being played at the Juliette Falls Golf Resort.

Viera (146) is tied for fourth place after the first two rounds. She has posted consecutive one-over par scores of 73 and is nine shots behind tournament leader Tiffany Chan (135) of Daytona State, and just three shots behind DSC’s So Young Hwang (143) for second place.

In addition to having the top two individual players in the tournament, Daytona State (593) leads the team competition by three shots over Houston Baptist (596). North Florida (603) and Murray State (603) are tied for third place.

Stetson followed an opening round score of 305 with a 307 on Monday. The Hatters (612) are five shots behind Florida Gulf Coast (607) for seventh and are just eight shots behind Toledo (604) for fifth in the 16-team tournament.

In addition to Viera, Hoecker is also in position for a top 10 finish. She followed an opening round 75 with a 73 on Monday and is currently alone in 11th place overall. Her total of 148 is just one shot off a group of players who are tied for ninth.

Stetson’s other three seniors are all grouped within one shot of each other. Sammi Smith and Claudia Redinger are tied for 56th with a score of 159 while Ryan Ashburn is tied for 63rd with a score of 160.

The Hatters’ two freshmen, Alessandra Kutz and Giulia Vandenberg, are both competing as individuals in the tournament. Kutz is tied for 34th overall after posting a second round score of 75 to give her a two-day score of 154. Vandenberg is tied for 84th after posting matching scores of 84 in the first two rounds.

Tuesday’s final round of play will begin at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start.
