The Stetson men’s soccer team will begin a four-game road trip this weekend, traveling to Macon to take on Georgia Southern and Winthrop in the 2013 Mercer Classic.

The Hatters (1-1-1) challenge the Georgia Southern Eagles (1-2-0) on Friday at 5:00 p.m. in the opening match of the tournament. They will then take on the undefeated Winthrop Eagles (2-0-1) on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

Stetson is coming off of a grueling 2-2 double overtime draw against Grand Canyon in which the Hatters played with just 10 men for nearly 70 minutes of action. An overtime victory over UMass Lowell to start the season, and a late 1-0 loss to USF on the road complete Stetson’s schedule thus far in 2013.

Fans can follow along with the action in Macon by going to for Live Stats. As always, the @StetsonMSoccer Twitter feed and the Hat-Alerts text messaging service will also provide live in-game updates.

• Stetson has opened the season 1-1-1. Last year at this time the Hatters were 0-3-0.

Andreas Schnabl’s eight saves against Grand Canyon tied a career best (Also 8 at FIU on 9/9/11). It tied for the most since Logan Potter’s 13 vs. Lipscomb on 10/9/09.

• The Hatters have scored three goals in 2013, each recorded by a different player; senior Evan Jimmo, freshman Gianluca Carbone, and senior Chase Rodgers.

• Senior Chase Rodgers tied the game against Grand Canyon on Sunday with his first goal as a Hatter, but his third career score (two goals at Louisville).

• Freshman Gianluca Carbone tallied his first collegiate goal on Sunday night, scoring the lone first half goal against the Antelopes.

• Senior Evan Jimmo scored the game-winner against UMass Lowell, just over one minute into the first overtime period. It was the fifth of his career.

• Senior Andreas Schnabl’s shutout against UMass Lowell was the 13th of his career, which is a school record.

• Schnabl also currently tops the Stetson record books with a career goals-against-average of 1.18.

• Georgia Southern fell to Winthrop and defeated Gardner-Webb in the SoCon/Big South Challenge to open 2013. The Eagles then lost to Duke on Tuesday night in Durham.

• Stetson and Georgia Southern are even at 10-10-3 in the all-time series, which dates back to 1981. The two teams haven’t met since 2007 when the Hatters won 1-0 in DeLand.

• Winthrop comes into the Mercer Classic an undefeated 2-0-1 having defeated Georgia Southern and Wofford in the SoCon/Big South Challenge, and playing to a 0-0 draw against ETSU on Monday.

• Stetson and Winthrop have met five times in the all-time series, which dates back to 1994, and the Eagles own a 3-1-1 advantage. In the last meeting, the teams tied 2-2 in DeLand back in 2007.
