DeLand, Fla. - Forward Ryan Asare-Bediako (Tampa, Fla.) knocked in a golden goal with just over five minutes remaining in the second overtime to give Stetson (7-2-1, 4-0-0) a 2-1 win over visiting USC Upstate (1-7-3, 0-4-0) Sunday in DeLand. It was his second game-winner of the weekend and the 5th consecutive victory for the Hatters.

Stetson opened the scoring in the 34th minute on a play started by Luis Ocejo (Mexico City, Mex.). Ocejo played the ball outside to Giulio D'Amore (DeLand, Fla.) who then sent a long ball deep into the box that found Fredrik Brustad (Oslo, Norway) for a header to the back of the net from seven yards out. It was the 5th goal of the season for the Preseason Conference Player of the Year.

The Hatter held the 1-0 lead until late in the second half. With the clock winding down in the 89th minute Stetson goalkeeper Andreas Schnabl (Blaichach, Germany) misplayed a clearing pass and gave Upstate's Michael Rankin-Byrne (Kingston, Ontario) an open goal from 30 yards out and he did not miss.

"We played some very good soccer this weekend", said Stetson head coach T. Logan Fleck. "Friday we were rewarded and today we had to make up for some mistakes, yet were rewarded in the end. After their goal we did not hit the panic button, our kids played with some very good match maturity and picked up three points."

After a scoreless first overtime period Stetson was able to capitalize on its efforts in the 105th minute. Brustad made a dash down the right flank and while fending off a defender managed to deliver a perfect cross that found Asare-Bediako streaking into the box for a text-book header from five yards out.

"AB's goal was one of the most beautiful goals you will see in college soccer", said Fleck. "It was a great service in by Freddy and finished at just the right time."

The win keeps the Hatters undefeated in league play and atop the Atlantic Sun Conference standings.

Next up for the Hatters is a trip to play Mercer on October 14 at 7:00 p.m. and Campbell on October 16 at 7:00 p.m.
