|Stetsonís Starikov Named to US National Team Camp Roster|
DeLand, Fla. - Former Stetson men's soccer player Eugene Starikov (Palm Harbor, Fla.) has been added to the United States National Team camp roster. The announcement was made Thursday, January 7 by Team USA head coach Bob Bradley.
Born in Odessa, Ukraine, Starikov grew up in Palm Harbor, Florida where he was an All-American and the NSCAA Florida High School Player of the Year at Palm Harbor University High School. He played for a season and a half at Stetson University where he totaled 10 goals and six assists and earned Atlantic Sun Conference All-Freshman Team honors in 2007. He left Stetson five games into the 2008 season to play professionally in Russia. In 2009 he joined Zenit St. Petersburg (Russia), the 2008 UEFA Cup champions. In 2010, he spent the last half of the season on loan with Russian Premier League club Tom Tomsk, scoring one goal in nine appearances.
Starikov is one of 25 players on the USA camp roster currently training in Carson, Calif. and preparing for the first match of 2011, a friendly against fellow FIFA World Cup Finalist Chile on January 22.
