DeLand, Fla. - Two first half goals propelled the Stetson men's soccer team (6-5-2, 3-1-1 Atlantic Sun) to a key 2-0 win over visiting Belmont (6-7-2, 2-2-2 A-Sun) Friday evening at the Stetson Soccer Complex. The Hatters are now unbeaten in their last four matches with three shutouts in that time frame; sophomore goalkeeper Andreas Schnabl (Blaichach, Germany) picked up his 10th career shutout to tie for second in Stetson program history.

Senior midfielder Gonzalo de Mujica (Buenos Aires, Argentina) was the catalyst for the Stetson offense all night as he assisted on both goals. In the 17th minute, his through ball to junior midfielder Jonathan Mendoza (Bogota, Colombia) was blasted home from the right side of the box inside the left post for a 1-0 lead. Eight minutes later, de Mujica placed a corner kick directly on the forehead of senior forward Joakim Helland (Bergen, Norway), who easily headed the ball in from just a few feet in front of goal.

The Hatters dominated the Bruins on the shot chart 18-4 and also held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks throughout the evening. Sophomore goalkeeper Andreas Schnabl (Blaichach, Germany) needed to make just one save to earn his fifth shutout of the season, although that one was a point-blank beauty to deny Belmont's Nico Olsak on a breakaway. Lou Manning made five saves for the Bruins and did very well to keep Stetson off the scoreboard in the second half.

With that clean sheet, Schnabl became only the second goalkeeper in program history to record five shutouts in a season twice (joining Ed Funcheon '89) and tied Kevin Johnson '93 for second in the Stetson record books with 10 career shutouts.

"It's great that we won, but I'm not satisfied with how we played the full 90 minutes," Head Coach T. Logan Fleck said. "I thought we played a good first 45-50 minutes, but our goals are to get to the top of the table in the A-Sun and we need to control the game throughout in order to do that. However, it's always satisfying to get the victory and we got good goals tonight from Jonathan Mendoza and Joakim Helland."

The Hatters continue their homestand at 12:00 pm Sunday when they host A-Sun foe Lipscomb. Live Stats and Hatter Vision will be available at
