Hatters Relinquish Early Lead Against FSU

Tallahassee, Fla. -  Stetson (9-13) jumped out to an early 4-1 lead yet could not hold on as #6 Florida State (16-4) came back with five runs in the bottom of the 5th inning and then went on to defeat the Hatters 14-7 Wednesday night at Dick Howser Stadium in Tallahassee.

Three Hatters picked up two hits in the game led by Spencer Theisen (Longwood, Fla.) who was 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI and a run scored. James Rasmussen (Tallahassee, Fla.) was 2-for-4 with a run scored in his hometown and Jeff Simpson (Valrico, Fla.) extended his hitting streak to 17 games with a pair of hard-hit singles in four at bats.

Freshman Kurt Schluter (Jupiter, Fla.) started on the mound for the Hatters and pitched a decent game allowing three hits and three earned runs in 4 1/3 innings of work. Ian Thompson (St. Petersburg, Fla.) took the loss after facing just two batters and giving up two runs on no hits and two walks. Sophomore Joe Dye (Royal Palm Beach, Fla.) was the only Hatter hurler on the night that did not surrender a run. Dye entered in the bottom of the 8th and retired the two batters he faced on five pitches.

Also picking up base hits for the Hatters were Mark Jones (Palm Coast, Fla.) and Ryan Lashley (Lake Worth, Fla.).

The Hatters will now return to Melching Field to host Northwestern University in a four-game series beginning Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. Stetson fans can catch the games on Hatter Vision by going to The voice of Stetson baseball Bill Topping will call the action.
