Orlando, Fla. - The 20th ranked Stetson Hatters traveled to Orlando Tuesday for the first half of a back-to-back home-and-home series with #23 UCF. Although Stetson scored first with a run in the top of the first inning UCF answered with two runs in the bottom and then went on to take the game by a score of 8-2. The Knights improved to 19-6 while the Hatters fell to 20-6.
Robert Crews (Port Charlotte, Fla.) was 2-for-5 in the game extending his hitting streak to 14 games. Mark Jones (Bunnell, Fla.) and Nick Rickles (Loxahatchee, Fla.) also extended their current streaks with a pair of hits each. Jones has now hit safely in seven consecutive games and Rickles in six.
Stetson starter Will Dorsey (Atlantic Beach, Fla.) allowed six runs, four earned runs and 12 hits over three innings. He struck out three, did not walk a batter and fell to 3-3 on the season.
Stetson has now dropped eight consecutive games to UCF and trails the all-time series 48-68.
The Hatters and Knights will be at Melching Field Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. for the second and final game of the season series.
