JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—Corbin Olmstead homered twice and drove in six runs in leading North Florida to an 11-4 win over Stetson in Atlantic Sun Conference play, Friday at Harmon Stadium.
North Florida’s 3-thru-6 hitters in the lineup were a combined 10-for-16 with 10 RBI. Stetson’s offense managed 12 hits, but the Hatters (17-27 overall, 6-10 A-Sun) left 10 runners on base and were 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position.
Olmstead started the scoring for the Ospreys (18-23, 8-11) with an RBI double in the second. Olmstead connected for 2-run home run in the fourth to make it 3-0.
Mike Fernland put Stetson within 3-1 when he led off the fifth with a solo homer, but UNF responded by scoring five runs in the bottom of the inning. Olmstead highlighted the scoring for the Ospreys with a three-run homer.
UNF added three unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth as its lead swelled to 11-1.
Stetson finally put together a strong offensive inning in the top of the seventh. The first run scored on a double play. Garrett Russini and Kyle Zech followed with run-scoring singles to make it 11-4.
Russini, Zech and Robert Bruce led Stetson with two hits apiece.
Drew Weeks was 3-for-5 for the Ospreys, while Trent Higgenbothem had two hits and three RBI.
Kevin Fagan (0-1) was saddled with the loss for Stetson, as he allowed five runs on seven hits in 4.2 innings. He struck out three and walked two.
David Trexler (5-2) picked up the win for UNF, scattering 11 hits in 6.2 innings.
The Hatters and Ospreys resume their series at 1 p.m., Saturday.
