|Green Team Evens Hatter Series With 6-2 Win Friday|
The second game of the annual Hatters Series was a pitching duel for the first five innings, but the Green Team pulled away to tie the series at one game apiece with a 6-2 victory.
Senior right-hander Kurt Schluter and sophomore right-hander Josh Powers were both impressive in their respective starting roles. Schluter surrendered just one earned run on one hit and two walks, while striking out four in three innings of work for the Green Team.
Powers matched Schluter with one earned run on one hit and two walks, while striking out five in four innings of work for the White Team. Redshirt freshman Tyler Warmoth relieved Schluter and picked up the win with four scoreless innings. Warmoth missed barrels and induced the White hitters into weak contact all day.
Offensively the Green Team was led by senior outfielder James Rasmussen, who had two hits and a run scored. He delivered the big blow in the seventh inning with a bases-clearing, three-RBI double to right center, which opened the lead to the 6-2 final score. Freshman catcher and right fielder Frankie Romano was also productive at the plate going two-for-three with a run scored.
Freshman right-hander Josh Thorne took the loss for the White Team despite striking out the side in his first inning of work in the fifth. The lone offensive highlight for the White Team was a leadoff double in the second by freshman catcher Buck McCarthy, which led to their first run of the ball game.
The rubber game of the Hatter Series was played at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday and was a nine inning contest. Come back to GoHatters.com for a recap of the final contest.
